Samoa celebrated 50 years of Independence last weekend and we got back just in time. The highlight for me was the V8 Car Show, here are some reflections of the event.
I was impressed that you could enter a car with so much bog, it must have been the triumphant independent symbol on the hood that got them in.
One of my favourite items for the day was the sound system competition, where participants friends danced on the car to emphasise the power of the pumping music.
The Domestic Surf God pimped the 70's style.
And the nectar of the god was found in large quantities. Check out the tattooed man sitting beneath the King Brown. Unfortunately I wasn't in focus.
Pimping the 70's funky bus
And check out the stereo and this one didn't win the sound competition, that's a big flat screen behind him!
There were a few cars with relief work, such as this Groovy Ghoully Car
Which had amazing interior detail, though not my cup of tea.
And exterior detail.
Men gathered in groups to admire. Peek a boo!
This car won the burn out competition, I heard one admirer comment that they should have used cheaper tyres if they were just going to ruin them.
I must pick up some of these accessories for my car at home.
I'm a big fan of the mural, this one is sublime.
Many cars in Samoa have messages across the front or back, they are often proclaiming that Jesus is the Lord, Answer, The Way, etc. The speed limit in Samoa averages at 40km/hr and most taxi drivers go at 20km/hr, so this one I do feel the need for often.
This one for me is the winner, he so perfectly styled his outfit to his vehicle.
A family portrait, so glad we didn't miss this.
